This is a brief introduction to the Eliopoli Ecovillage Project, an intentional community project located in Port Maitland, Nova Scotia, Canada. In the image to the left you can see the wonderful Darling Lake peninsula, location of the project.About the Name
Eliopoli is the City of the Sun – from ancient Greek language Helios: Sun and Poleis: City -. Building Eliopoli we express our will to live in a different way and bring valors in our every-day-life. Eliopoli will be the focus of a bigger network of ideas. Our goal is to balance economical, environmental and interior aspects in a rich Synthesis, building an intentional community around ecological principles and archetype symbols, not a protected greenhouse for fragile people but a forge of strong and gentle human being.
We like to compare ourselves to the founders of the ancient Greek colonies in the mediterranean sea. Rich in their own culture the ancient colonists were seekers of new possibilities and spaces and founded among the more prosperous and beautiful cities of their times (see Syracuse as example).
We see Nova Scotia, the Canadian beatiful province, as a huge “promise land” full of unexpressed potential.
